Admissions

Application deadlines

Courses are conducted on a semestral basis. Application is made within the periods specified below, with entrance in the following semester:

  • Master's and Doctoral degree programs: August 1-31 and March 1-31, each year

 

Interviews and Exams

International students are required to take admission tests unless applying through the PEC/PG Agreement.

The headquarters of the admission process will be the Department of Crop Science of ESALQ-USP, in Piracicaba, SP, at Avenida Padua Dias, 11.

The applicants will be able to carry out the tests in other locations in Brazil and abroad, pending approval by the program’s Coordinating Committee.

Applicants who wish to take the remote test must consult the Coordinating Committee between March 1 to 31, 2015 via e-mail fitotec@usp.br. Requests made after this date will be disregarded.

Curriculum Vitae and Written Test remote exams will be performed via the internet using Skype, in video call. Therefore, the applicant must provide access to this application, inform his/her Skype name to the secretary to e-mail fitotec@usp.br, previously test the connection and meet the scheduled time for the interview.

Exam schedules

Test 1- English proficiency exam: May 4, 2015, Monday, at 10h00 (Brasília time). The maximum test duration is 120 minutes.

Test 2 - Exam on Crop Science knowledge: May 5, 2015, Monday, at 14h00 (Brasília time). The maximum test duration is 120 minutes.

The list of applicants summoned for Test 4 will be published here with the respective argumentation times on May 21, 2015.

Test 4 – Curriculum Vitae and written test discussion: May 28 and 29, 2015. The respective times will soon be informed. Applicants who will take the remote test must send an electronic file containing the proof of the documents mentioned in the resumé to the Crop Science office at fitotec@usp.br until May 21, 2015.

 

Application materials

1.    Application form

2.    Letters of recommendation (two)

3.    1 photo (3 x 4 cm), attached to the application form

4.    Birth or marriage certificate

5.    Lattes résumé (CNPq), updated and printed

6.    Official transcripts from the undergraduate institution

7.    Copy of the undergraduate degree diploma (front and back). Students whose diplomas have not yet been issued should submit an official document indicating the date of conclusion and degree earned. Students who are still atending undergraduate school should submit an official letter indicating that they are potentially eligible to graduate

8.    Official transcripts from the graduate institution (Doctoral program applicants only)

9.    Master degree diploma (Doctoral program applicants only). Students whose diplomas have not yet been issued should present an official document indicating the date of conclusion and degree earned. Students who are still atending the graduate program should submit an official letter indicating that potential date of the dissertation exam. Graduate diplomas obtained in countries other than Brazil, applicants should additionally submit a recognition or equivalence of the diploma.

10.  Optionally, doctorate applicants can submit a project of the research he or she intends to develop throughout the program

11.  Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese for foreigners (CELPE-BRAS), intermediary or higher level.

12.  If English is not the applicant’s native language, he or she must show evidence of English proficiency at the admission by taking an exam. Satisfactory scores in other tests up to 2 years prior to the admission test are also accepted:

Required scores:

  • Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL, Computer-based-Test - CBT) – 213 or higher;
  • Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL, Internet-based-Test – IBT) – 80 or higher;
  • International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) – 7.0 or higher;
  • Certificate in Advanced English (CAE);
  • Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE, Cambridge University)

In this case, the applicant should submit proof along with the other application materials and request exemption from the exam via e-mail to fitotec@usp.br from March 1-31.

Tuition and fees

The graduate studies provided by the University of São Paulo are non-tuitional. The application process, however, includes a R$150 (approx. sixty US Dollars) fee, which admitted international students can pay upon arrival.
