Mateus Quelhas dos Santos Martins is the first student of Food Science to complete the double degree program held since 2011 with the Ecole Nationale Vétérinaire, Agroalimentaire et de L´Alimentation Nantes-Atlantique (ONIRIS). The student traveled to France in January, 2012, after participating in the selection process of the CAPES/BRAFAGRI 2011 program. For two years and eight months, he took courses and held internships in that country to fulfill the required credits.

Back in Brazil, Mateus points out that the program allows you to complement the studies and the concepts initiated at ESALQ. “We take the basis of our formation in Food Sciences and completed with contents of engineering, in addition to economics, business strategies. With this, we gain a holistic view of the sector”.

In France, Mateus took three internships. "In the first experience, for one month, I worked as a laborer in a production line from a company that works with shrimp and clams. There I learned the whole process, product packing, weighing, etc. In the second year, the internship provides the opportunity to choose an area in which we are interested to know more, and then I started to work in a company that works with dairy products in the north of France. This time, the internship was conducted in the area of marketing. Finally, in the third year, we do the final report integrated into the internship, and then I continued in the company of dairy products. "

Back to ESALQ, Mateus talked about the plans for the future and the period he spent in France. “I was interested in the area of marketing and I am thinking in doing an extra course to have a deeper knowledge, perhaps an MBA. About the double degree program, it was fantastic, I changed professionally and improved my language skills, so I feel ready for the job market.”
