ESALQ student is appointed ambassador of foreign NGO

Luiz Bispo returns to Brazil as ambassador of Tunza Eco Generation NGO

Luiz Fernando Pereira Bispo, student of Forestry from Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (USP/ESALQ), who participated of Science Without Borders project (CsF), with CAPES scholarship, returned from Australia to Brazil in February with new learning, awards and stories to tell.

Bispo, who shows interest in studying environmental issues in his academic life, studied little more than a year at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), in the State of Sidney. The engagement with this area began in 2008 when he began to get involved in volunteer work at SOS Atlantic Forest NGO. In Australia, the things were not different. Considering the academic curriculum, not so related to the forest area, he chose different alternatives to be involved with environmental projects.

“To avoid losing the interaction with the area of nature and forest, I was involved in volunteer activities. I met the group Conservation Volunteer Australia (CVA), which works with preservation and conservation of degraded areas of the city of Sydney and surroundings”. According to the student, to get involved in these activities and projects was essential to acquire more knowledge and be close to the area that actually attracts him. “The social experience was extremely valuable”, he added.

In addition to the cultural enrichment and integration with people from different places, Bispo received awards in the cultural, social, artistic and environmental areas. The latest was "Hidden Eco Hero 2014", awarded by Tunza Eco Generation NGO, which subsequently appointed him as ambassador.

"I was already working in the international environmental platform of the NGO and then the opportunity came on the website to apply to become ambassador. I filled out forms and they named me ambassador of the NGO in Brazil”, Bispo said.

The Tunza Eco Generation NGO is a partnership between UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) with Samsumg Engineering, created to disseminate ideas and actions among environmentalists worldwide. It has a website (http://tunza.eco-generation.org/default.jsp) that provides interactive text, video and other new technologies on the conservation and environmental protection for children and youth.

"My role as ambassador of the Tunza Eco Generation NGO is to update the platform with all issues related to the environment, news and programs being developed in Brazil. I can apply as an article and is connected with the whole world”. In addition, Bispo needs to be involved with activities related to the environment and social and environmental education.

Back to Brazil, the student claims to be engaged in studies and in a voluntary environmental project with the Bom Menino House, institution that serves children and teenagers in Piracicaba (SP). “I want to finish the graduation, do a good project at Bom Menino House, because is very rewarding the interaction with children. It's very good!”.

Bispo intends to build his career always involved in projects and NGOs that fight for environmental causes. After finishing the graduation, he does not rule out the possibility of returning to Australia for his doctorate program. The student also wish to become, one day, Minister of the Environment.
